Zachary Quinto : Nothing Trek related for 2 years

In a telephone interview with Wired.com Zach has distanced himself from Star Trek-related activity for the next two years.

He told interviewer Gus Mastrapa “I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years — no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while.”

He also stated “I’m stepping away from that genre and exploring a lot of other territory,” Whether this includes the fantasy series Heroes was not clear, but his comments may worry producers at Heroes who are currently pitching for a fifth season to NBC.

UK based Constellation Events currently have Zach announced as their first guest for a Glasgow convention in July.

The statement probably would not apply to promotional appearances such as any which might occur at San Diego Comic-Con or similar events, as these would normally be within the contractual obligations for Star Trek and Heroes.

UPDATE - From the horse's mouth
i have been inundated with questions and confusion about a comment i made during an interview with wired - about the new atari star trek online game - in which i said i am stepping away from trek for the next two years. obviously i will be a part of any upcoming films... reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making any public appearances related to the franchise - or doing anymore auxiliary projects pertaining to the trek universe. i will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film - which will be released in june of 2012... two years from now. hence the no trek for two years remark. worry not trekkers. it was a misunderstanding of context. i am not spock. but i am spock. all at the same time.

Zach starts filming new movie project

Speaking to Jam magazine, Zachary has confirmed that he will be producing and starring in a new movie about the global financial meltdown, in which he will play a rocket scientist who transfers his skills to financial forecasting.

The movie will film in New York over the next couple of weeks, making it unlikely that Zach will appear in the first half of the new season of Heroes.

"It's a significantly different character than either Spock or (Heroes') Sylar," he says. "It has elements of Glengarry Glen Ross."

The film is as yet untitled and we don't know whether it will be a short or feature length.

Heroes back in September for 18 episodes

The ODI has reported that Heroes will return in September and run for 19 episodes. There are also rumours that NBC will move the show to a more family friendly slot of 8pm in an effort to revive flagging ratings.

Adrian Pasdar, who bit the dust as Nathan Petrelli in the final episode of season 3, says that both he and Zach will be back for season four, with a delicious storyline which will see Sylar battle with his inner self and the personality of Nathan, imposed on him by HRG, Angela Petrelli and Matt Parkman.

Dates are tentatively pegged at either September 14th or 21st. There is no word as to when the series will be aired on BBC 2.

Star Trek to get sequel

Paramount pictures have announced that they are planning a sequel to the reboot of Star Trek, which hits cinemas worldwide on May 7th.

Variety reports that writers Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have been asked to deliver a script by Christmas this year, with a view to releasing the second film in the summer of 2011.

Lindelof told Variety; "There's obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn't even come out yet, but we're so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed."

"With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We'll be ambitious about what we'll do."

Zachary has signed for three Star Trek films, which would see him possibly working on the project until 2013.
